It's also a good idea to stay away from the garage or toilets, especially on long flights. These areas can be noisy and crowded and may present some challenges.

It is not as easy to choose as it often seems. Generally, you cannot store any luggage under the seat in front of you. You also need to be able to speak the native language of the airline (not a problem if you are flying in your own country). Some planes have two exit rows, so the first row is not dependent.

The three tips above apply to almost any flight. But what about the times when you can choose a different airline? Many routes are covered by different airlines flying different types of aircraft. If you're not affiliated with a particular airline, and if you're reading this, I'm guessing you're not, it's worth digging deep and exploring your options. You don't need to know every model of every plane, just two things.

First, if there is an opportunity to fly a Boeing 787 or an Airbus A350, consider them. These aircraft have a modern design and have high room pressure and humidity. This enables them to sit comfortably for long hours. It can be the difference between arriving after a 12+ hour flight feeling good or feeling wasted. Another factor to consider is the cabinet layout. Shorter routes are usually flown with smaller planes, usually with a 3-3 configuration, such as three seats, one row and three seats. Longer planes, usually with larger "wide body" planes, may have 2-3-2, 3-3-3, or in some cases 3-4-3. This gives many new options. I like 2-3-2 because you can have a window seat with one person next to you. For larger/closer designs, I would say that a hallway in the corners is better than a hallway in the middle, since you are at least near a window.
